Amazon Purchases ShopBob.com

Interesting seeing how Amazon is buying smaller companies, running them independently, but bringing Amazon’s expertise in online marketing.

Amazon.com, the largest internet retailer, on Monday announced the takeover of Shopbop, which sells women’s shoes, accessories and clothing online, for an undisclosed sum.

Shopbop will operate as a separate unit, complementing Amazon’s existing apparel ans footwear division, the company said.

Shopbop, founded in 1999 in Madison, Wisconsin, sells products by more than 75 designers including Marc Jacobs, True Religion and Juicy Couture. via MSNBC
